GAINESVILLE, Ga. — Belmont Abbey men's golfer
Will Locey made eight birdies and put together two rounds in the 70s during the first two rounds of the NCAA South/Southeast Regional Friday at Chattahoochee Golf Club.
The start of the regional was delayed a day after inclement weather forced the postponement of play on Thursday.
Locey sits tied for 28th overall after opening the day with a 2-over par 74 and followed that with an even-par round of 72. He is the first Crusader competing at the South/Southeast Regional since Levi Kettelhut and Nick Stafford did so back in 2018. The two Crusaders finished tied for 32nd and 37th, respectively, that year.
In the opening round, Locey was one over after his first nine holes after beginning play on the Par 3 17th. He made two birdies on the back nine, including one on the Par 5-16th hole, his last of the opening round.
The second round also saw Locey with an identical one-over par score as he finished with two birdies and three bogeys on the first nine holes. He finished with two birdies on his final five holes including a closing birdie on the 16th hole for the second straight day.
The regional concludes Saturday and Locey is set to tee off at 10:50 a.m. alongside Kristoffer Larsson of Limeston and Harrison Hughston of Montevallo.
The top five teams plus the two individuals not on those teams will earn a spot to the National Championships set to be held May 21-25 at the Orange County National Golf Club in Winter Park, Florida.
