CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Belmont Abbey equaled the program record for wins in a season at 18 Tuesday night with a 3-1 (25-23, 25-23, 23-25, 26-24) win at Queens in non-conference men's volleyball action. The victory improved the Crusaders to 18-4 overall, tying the mark set by the 2016 team.
The Royals fall to 9-20 overall.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Zach Puentes tallied 4 kills, while Matthew Staskunas also reached double figures with 12. Ryan Charles chipped in nine.
- Joseph Morris hit .714 with six kills and an error in seven chances. Charles finished with a .353 hitting percentage.
- Joseph Morris recorded his third double-double of the season with 39 assists and 12 digs.
- Alejandro Leon led the defensive effort with 14 digs, while Staskunas added nine.
- Each team served six aces.
- In the opening set, the Crusaders never trailed after scoring the first two points. However, in the second, The Abbey trailed 20-16 and then 23-21 before finishing with four in a row.
- The third set saw Queens rally from a 23-22 deficit for a 25-23 winÂ
- In the clinching set, Belmont Abbey trailed 18-17 before four straight points made the score 21-18. After the teams traded points twice, the Royals used a 3-0 run even the set at 23. The teams traded points again before kills by Staskunas and Rehmann gave The Abbey the victory.
- The win avenged a 3-1 loss to Queens at the Wheeler Center back in January
