SALISBURY, N.C. — Connor Tucker extended his hitting streak to nine games and extended his team lead in runs batted in as the Belmont Abbey baseball team faced No. 21 Catawba in a mid-week contest Tuesday at Newman Park.
Tucker finished with two hits for the Crusaders, including a three-run home run, but it was Catwaba who earned a 17-6 win over the Abbey.
Belmont Abbey is now 20-16 on the season while Catawba is now 30-9.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Belmont Abbey struck first with an RBI single from Caleb Burr to drive in Connor Powell. Powell reached base three times with a hit and two walks on the evening.
- Catawba broke the game open early with an eight-run first inning and added two more runs in the second to take an early lead.
- Blake Hanly did not allow an earned run in his 2.1 innings in relief for the Crusaders.
- Zach Gonsiorowski made his first appearance for the Crusaders this season.
- Tucker's three-run home run in the seventh with his fifth of the season and brought up his RBI total to 37 for the year.
- Catawba answered with two more runs in the seventh.
- Aengus Adams and Ethan McLain both drove in their first runs of the season as they both drew walks with the bases loaded in the ninth inning.
- Landon Hahn scored two runs for The Abbey.

- Belmont Abbey returns home for the first time since March 25 as the Crusaders host UNC Pembroke in a three-game Conference Carolinas series starting Friday.
