BELMONT, N.C. -- Belmont Abbey broke a 6-6 tie early in the second half with seven straight goals, leading the Crusaders to a 13-7 victory over Barton in a Conference Carolinas men's lacrosse clash Wednesday afternoon. Both teams entered the game in a three-way tie for first with 3-0 league records.
Davis McCulley scored three times, while three others added a pair of goals.
With its sixth straight victory, The Abbey improves to 7-5 overall and 4-0 in conference play. The Bulldogs fall to 5-7, 3-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Jeremy Mahoney led the team in points with four. He tallied two goals and dished out two assists. He also grabbed four ground balls.
- Tre Childers and Richie Timothee also scored twice. Jacob Power, Harry Maloney, Riley Arsenault and Thomas Lewis also found the net.
- Caleb Mulcahy won 16 of 24 face-offs and grabbed 12 ground balls.
- Angus Snow made 21 saves to earn the win.
- Barton grabbed a early lead with a goal less than three minutes in, but the Crusaders answered with back-to-back strikes.The teams exchanged the next four goals before The Abbey went up 5-3, although the Bulldogs closed the gap to 5-4 1:55 before intermission.
- The Bulldogs evened again early in the third, but Mahoney put the Crusaders up for good at the 9:27 mark of the quarter, starting the 7-0 run. McCulley tallied all of his goals during that span.

- Belmont Abbey faces another huge test on Saturday, taking on the other undefeated team in the conference standings.
