MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- Orlando Descartes was named Male Field Athlete of the Year after winning the high jump on Saturday, helping Belmont Abbey to a third-place finish and its highest point total ever at the Conference Carolinas Men's Track & Field Championship. Voting was conducted among the league's head coaches.

Descartes was the only competitor to clear 2.07 meters (6'-7") to earn the conference title. He finished third in the javelin yesterday to earn 16 of the Crusaders's 95 points.

Additionally, senior Zachary Knott was the  Elite 23 Award winner for having the highest grade-poont average at the championship  (3.97).
