EMORY, VA. — The Belmont Abbey baseball team hit three home runs as the Crusaders played its final road game of the regular season Tuesday against Emory & Henry at Porterfield-DeVault Field.
Carter DuHaime and
Justin Herrera hit back-to-back home runs in the first inning and
Caleb Burr hit his team-best ninth homer of the year but the Wasps rallied for an 8-6 win over the Abbey.
Belmont Abbey is now 22-22 on the season while Emory & Henry is 11-35.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Belmont Abbey got off to a strong start with a five-run first inning.
- Jack Boyles drove in the first run with a sacrifice fly to bring in Connor Powell.
- After Garrett Browder and Burr were hit by pitches in consecutive at-bats, DuHaime added a spark with a three-run home run.
- After an Emory & Henry pitching change, Herrera homered to give the Crusaders a 5-0 lead.
- Myles Hedgecock made his first career start for the Crusaders and threw a pair of scoreless innings.
- The Wasps put up five runs in the third to pull even with the Crusaders.
- Burr put the Crusaders back in front in the sixth with a leadoff home run.
- Emory & Henry tied the game in the seventh off a sacrifice bunt and hit back-to-back home runs in the eighth inning to take the lead for good.
- Aidan Brown took the loss for the Crusaders.
