GAFFNEY, S.C. — The Belmont Abbey baseball made the most of its return from the Easter break by sweeping a doubleheader against Limestone Tuesday at Founders FCU Stadium. The Crusaders took the opener 7-4 before holding on for a 10-8 victory in the nightcap.
The two wins extended Belmont Abbey's winning streak to a season-best five games.
Garrett Browder homered in both games of the twin bill while
Connor Tucker finished with five hits over the two contests.
Alex Sniffen and
Aidan Brown were the two pitchers to earn wins for the Abbey while
Josh Collett picked up his first save of the season.
Belmont Abbey is now 19-13 overall following Tuesday's contests while Limestone is 18-20 on the year.
THE OPENER
- Browder got the first hit of the afternoon with a single in the second inning and hit a two-run home run as part of a three-run inning.
- Prior to Browder's homer, Tucker put the Abbey on the board with his RBI single to score Jack Boyles.
- Spencer Cipro struck out six in his four innings of work for the Crusaders.
- After Limestone pulled even with a run in the fifth and two in the sixth, the Abbey took the lead for good in the sevent.
- Boyles led the inning off with a home run while Browder plated a run off a sacrifice fly.
- Sniffen pitched a scorless eighth inning to keep the two-run lead intact.
- The Crusaders added two more runs in the ninth by capitalizing on two Saints errors.
- Limestone had the tying run at the plate but the Crusaders turned a game-ending double play to secure the victory.
THE NIGHTCAP
- Boyles came through with the first runs driven in with a two-run single in the second.
- Limestone added a run in the bottom of the inning but the Abbey answered back with a four-run third highlighted by Browder's two-run home run.
- Carter DuHaime and Connor Powell also drove runs in the inning for the Abbey.
- The Saints got within a run after four innings but Belmont Abbey extended the lead back to four thanks to a bases-clearing double from Tucker.
- Todd Velotta gave the Crusaders a run in the sixth after a lead-off triple and he scored on a Limestone error.
- After Limestone got back within two runs, Aidan Brown recorded the final out of the sixth to maintain the Abbey lead.
- The Saints made a final push in the seventh and had the tying run on base but Collett worked his way out of the jam to earn the save.

- Belmont Abbey continues its extended road trip with a three-game Conference Carolinas series against North Greenville.
- Game 1 of the series is at 3:30 p.m. Friday followed by a doubleheader at noon Saturday from Tigerville, S.C.
