GREENVILLE, S.C. — Belmont Abbey pitcher
Drew Stegura was named the Conference Carolinas Pitcher of the Week for the second time in as many weeks Tuesday by the league office.
The sophomore right-hander put together another strong outing for the Crusaders by striking out a career-best 12 batters over seven innings in a 7-3 victory Friday over UNC Pembroke.
The dozen strikeouts also included nine in a row from the fourth through sixth innings against the Braves. Additionally, he allowed just one run and five hits and walked just one batter on 122 pitches in the victory.
His performance was just after he threw a complete-game one hit shutout against North Greenville the previous week that earned him Conference Carolinas accolades as well as NCBWA Southeast Region Pitcher of the Week accolades.
Belmont Abbey hosts Wingate Tuesday before traveling to Mount Olive to face the Trojans in a pivotal three-game series starting Friday.
