MONROE, N.C. — Belmont Abbey's Will Locey put together two strong rounds to put himself in the top five after the opening day of the Ralph Hargett Memorial Invitational Monday at Rolling Hills Country Club.
 
Locey currently sits at 3-under 141 for the tournament after opening the day with a 69 followed by an even-par 72 in the second round. He is tied for fourth along with Lenoir-Rhyne's Holt Allison and Tusculum's Morgan Cain.
 
The Crusaders had three other golfers finish with one round even par or better: Sam Newton, who opened with a 2-under 70, Elian Infante with a 1-under 71 in his second round and Brodie Perry who opened with a 72. Infante (79-71—150) and  Perry (72-78—150) were the top finishers for the second team for the day.
 
Belmont Abbey has two teams competing at the event with the 'A' team sitting in fifth place (288-297—585) and the 'B' team in 14th (303-306—609). Grand Valley State (282-278—560) leads the team event with Drew Coble leading individually at 7-under par (67-70—137).
 
The tournament concludes Tuesday with a 9 a.m. shotgun start for the final round.
