McCulley, Maloney and Mahoney Pace Crusaders to Conference-Opening Win

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. -- Jeremy Mahoney, Davis McCulley and Harry Maloney combined for 18 points on 11 goals and seven assists, leading Belmont Abbey to a 19-10 victory over Young Harris in Conference Carolinas men's lacrosse action Saturday afternoon.

The contest served as the league opener for both teams with the Crusaders improving to 3-5 overall and the Mountain Lions falling to 4-4. It was also YHU's debut in Conference Carolinas as it joined the league for the 2023-24 academic year.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Mahoney established career-highs for points with eight and assists with six.
  • McCulley struck for six goals, while Maloney added three goals and an assist.
  • Mikey Sweigart and Richie Timothee each scored a pair of goals, while John Valetto, Jacob Power and Riley Arsenault.
  • Belmont Abbey recorded 63 shots, including 31 on goal. It forced 18 turnovers and had a 47-21 advantage on ground balls. The Crusaders also won 24 of 33 face-offs.
  • The Abbey scored the first three goals to build a 5-2 lead after one period, then stretched the advantage to 12-5 by halftime and 17-6 after three quarters.
  • Angus Snow played all 60 minutes in goal, making just two saves.
