BELMONT, N.C. -- Wade Jackson tallied a season-high 24 points and Mason Taylor added 23 points and eight rebounds, leading Belmont Abbey to a 79-74 Senior Day victory over Chowan in Conference Carolinas men's basketball action Saturday afternoon. The duo was among four varsity players honored before game.

With the result, the Crusaders improve to 9-13 overall and 7-5 in league play. The Hawks fall to 13-8, 7-5.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Jackson hit seven of his 15 field-goal attempts, including two of five three-pointers, but more importantly eight of 10 free throws. His two conversions with eight seconds remaining extended a 77-74 lead to 79-74.
• Taylor connected on nine field goals, three from behind the arc, while making his attempts at the charity stripe.
• DJ Holloway was the other Crusader in double figures with a career-best 17. He also grabbed four rebounds.
• Belmont Abbey held a 28-22 lead at the half despite shooting just 31.0 percent. Chowan hit just 33.3 percent in the period. The Hawks led 12-9 before six straight points gave the Crusaders a lead they would never relinquish.
• Both teams shot over 50 percent after intermission.
• The Abbey equaled its season low with five turnovers.
• Chowan had a 43-31 advantage on the boards and a 17-0 edge in second-chance points.
• Casey Cox and Jaylon Simpson were also honored as seniors. Cox made his first career start.
