Velotta Finishes with Three-Hit Effort Against Limestone

BELMONT, N.C. — Todd Velotta had three hits and drove in three runs to led the Belmont Abbey baseball team against Limestone Tuesday but it was the Saints who came away with the 12-6 victory Tuesday at Abbey Yard.

Velotta had two doubles on the day and Carter DuHaime were the two Crusaders who finished with multiple hits on the day. Belmont Abbey used 11 pitchers in Tuesday's contest.

Belmont Abbey is now 5-5 on the season while Limestone is 6-6.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Limestone jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning with a two-run double and a sacrifice fly.
  • The Crusaders responded in the third with a pair of runs starting with an RBI double from Connor Tucker and a sacrifice fly by Joe Whitaker.
  • The Saints added a run in the fourth but the Crusaders pulled even thanks to Velotta's two-run double in the fourth down the left field line.
  • Ian Vickers pitched a scoreless fifth in his Crusaders debut and recorded a pair of strikeouts.
  • Limestone broke the game open in the sixth inning with a four-run frame capped off by a three-run home run.
  • The Crusaders added a run in the sixth when Brady Emerson scored on a wild pitch.
  • Limestone added a run in the seventh and three more in the eighth.
  • Velotta drove in his third run of the day with another double in the eighth inning.
  • Connor Powell drew three walks for the Crusaders.
UP NEXT
  • The Crusaders welcome Barton for the first home Conference Carolinas series of the season this weekend.
  • The series begins with a single game at 4 p.m. Friday followed by a doubleheader Saturday starting at 1 p.m. from Abbey Yard.
