Miller, Clough Tally First Career Goals against Catawba

BELMONT, N.C. — Xavier Miller and Jack Clough tallied their first career goals for Belmont Abbey but it was Catawba who came away with the 9-7 victory over the Crusaders Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field.

Both Miller and Clough scored in the fourth quarter with Miller accounting for the final two goals for The Abbey and Clough opening the quarter with a goal.

Tre Childers also scored twice for The Abbey on the day.

Belmont Abbey is now 1-2 on the season while Catawba is 2-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • It was a defensive struggle in the first quarter with both teams tallying just one goal each.
  • Catawba scored first before Childers got The Abbey on the board with 3:07 remaining. Childers led the team with seven shots, four on goal.
  • The Crusaders scored the next two goals in the second quarter from Childers and Harry Maloney.
  • Catawba went ahead with the next five goals in the second quarter and outscored the Crusaders 3-0 in the third.
  • Belmont Abbey attempted to rally with four straight goals in the fourth quarter. Davis McCulley also scored in the quarter alongside Clough and Miller.
  • The Crusaders went 20-20 in faceoffs.
  • Angus Snow had 13 saves for the Abbey.
  • Jaydan Green had four caused turnovers for the Abbey.
  • Belmont Abbey had 29 ground balls on the day.

UP NEXT
  • The Crusaders are on the road for the next three contests starting at No. 12 Newberry next Saturday at 5 p.m.
  • Belmont Abbey's next home game will be March 9th against Embry-Riddle at noon at Alumni Field.
