BELMONT, N.C. --
Daniel Lubamba finished with team highs in points and rebounds, but Virginia State pulled away midway through the second half for a 64-56 victory over Belmont Abbey in non-conference men's basketball action Saturday afternoon. The junior tallied 13 points and a career-high-tying five rebounds.
With the result, the Crusaders fall to 1-4 on the season, while the Trojans improve to 6-4.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Lubamba has reached double figures in three of his four contests after missing the opener due to illness. He made three baskets, including his only three-point attempt, a six of his seven free throws.
- Alhousseny Diallo was the only other player over 10 points with a season-best 11. He also grabbed four rebounds and dished out two assists.
- A pair of Crusaders -- Jordan Patton and Jaden Peters -- chipped in nine points. Peters also led the team with three of the 10 assists.
- Belmont Abbey shot just 38.8 percent from the field, but 44.4 percent after intermission.
- The Trojans held a 39-21 rebounding advantage, but had four more turnovers (18 to 14).
