Long Nets Goal, Two Assists in First-Round Win over Barton

BELMONT, N.C. -- Haley Long scored 10 minutes into the game, then added assists on two late goals, leading No. 4 seed Belmont Abbey to a 3-0 victory over No. 9 seed Barton in the first round of the Conference Carolinas Women's Soccer Tournament Thursday night at Alumni Field.

The Crusaders (11-3-3) advance to the quarterfinals on Sunday, when they will host No. 5 seed Converse. The Bulldogs finish the season at 5-8-4.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Long's tally came on a cross into the six-yard box from Austin Bowling and Reagan Cullen. The shot occurred at 9:59 on the clock.
  • The lead was doubled with 3:21 remaining when Madison Gnolfo broke through the right side of the penalty area after a pass from Long. It was the second career goal for the senior midfielder.
  • The final tally occurred with just 9.8 seconds left when Gabriela Enciso took a breakaway pass at midfield all the way to the goal.
  • The Crusaders outshot Barton 15-9 overall and 8-2 on goal.
  • Brianna Sroka and Ryleigh Dougherty shared the shutout, each playing a half. Sroka made the only two saves for The Abbey in the opening 45 minutes.
