BELMONT, N.C. — Abigail Crain recorded her eighth career double-double and Belmont Abbey reached its season-high in points with an 82-44 victory over Southern Wesleyan Saturday afternoon at the Wheeler Center.
Crain finished with 11 points and a career-high 18 rebounds as the Crusaders had 12 different players score in the contest. It is the eighth career double-double for the senior forward.
Janiah Shular also finished in double-figures scoring with 10 points and four assists off the bench.
Peyton Nation and
Madison Lusk also had nine points for the Crusaders. Nation also had three steals.
Belmont Abbey improves to 6-0 overall and 2-0 in Conference Carolinas play and have now won four straight contests. Southern Wesleyan is now 2-6 with an 0-2 league record.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After Southern Wesleyan made the opening 3-pointer of the game, Belmont Abbey went on a 10-0 run to take the lead. Riley James accounted for 2 field goals during that run.
- Cate Schieber made a pair of 3-pointers in the later stage of the first quarter as the Crusaders scored a season-high 28 points in the first quarter.
- Belmont Abbey closed the first half strong on a 9-2 run with one of three 3-pointers from Lusk.
- Leigha Dennison had eight points off the bench for the Abbey, a career-best.
- Emily Driver finished with six points while Kallie Lusk had five points in her season debut.
- Belmont Abbey's largest lead was 40 points in the second half.
- The Crusaders out-rebounded the Warriors 50-27 in the contest and had 18 offensive rebounds in that total.
- Belmont Abbey had a season-high five blocked shots with Schieber, James, Valeria Batista, Shular and Alexandra Falesto all being credited with a block.
- The Crusaders also had nine steals in the game and had 30 points off turnovers.
- Belmont Abbey also finished with a season-best 18 free throws made off of 19 attempts.
