BELMONT, N.C. — Peyton Nation put together a career-best day on the court with her fourth career double-double as RV Belmont Abbey defeated North Greenville 58-39 Saturday afternoon in Conference Carolinas play at the Wheeler Center.
Nation finished with 20 points and 14 rebounds — both career-highs — as the Crusaders won their fifth straight contest. Nation accounted for 14 points in the first half as she was one of three Crusaders to finish in double figures. Additionally, she added three steals and a pair of blocked shots.
Abigail Crain added 15 points, eight rebounds and four assists while
Cate Schieber added 12 points and four steals.
With Saturday's results, Belmont Abbey is now 7-2 overall and 3-0 in Conference Carolinas play. North Greenville is now 1-8 overall, 1-2 in the league.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- North Greenville jumped out to a 6-2 lead but an 11-0 Belmont Abbey run helped give the Crusaders the lead back.
- After NGU took a 17-15 lead in the early moments of the second quarter, the Crusaders outscored the Trailblazers 13-0 and held them without a point for nearly eight minutes.
- Nation accounted for eight of those points.
- Schieber accounted for the final six points of the half for Belmont Abbey as the team took a 31-23 lead at halftime.
- The Crusaders led by as many as 11 points in the third quarter with James recording three assists in the frame.
- Belmont Abbey pulled away by outscoring NGU 12-0 to begin the fourth quarter and held the Trailblazers scoreless for nearly the first eight minutes.
- The Abbey outrebounded NGU 42-29 in the contest.
- Belmont Abbey recorded 14 assists and finished with 11 steals. It is the second straight contest that the Crusaders have finished in double figures with steals.
- The five blocks match a season high for the Abbey with Nation and Valeria Batista each recording two.
- The Crusaders committed just nine turnovers: a season low.
- The 39 points is a season-best allowed by Belmont Abbey.
