Katie Brookins and
Mallory Swain reached double figures in kills and digs, respectively, but league newcomer Shorter rallied for a five-set, 3-2 (17-25, 25-19, 23-25, 25-9, 15-11)
victory over Belmont Abbey in Conference Carolinas women's volleyball action on Saturday afternoon.
With the result, the Crusaders fall to 7-17 overall and 5-10 in league play, while the Hawks improve to 12-13,7-7.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Brookins finished the contest with a team-high 13 kills, while Lola Sultenfuss added eight.
- Swain was the defensive leader with 18 digs -- the third time this season she has topped double figures in the category. She also added two of The Abbey's four service aces and a pair of assists.
- Ella Schellenberg and Kyleigh Coghlan also registered aces.
- Schellenberg dished out 33 assists.
- Riley Nickol also topped double figures in digs with 13.
