ETTRICK, Va. — The Belmont Abbey women's soccer team extended its match win streak to five after defeating Virginia State 7-0 in a nonconference road contest Wednesday afternoon at Rogers Stadium.
The Crusaders got off to a fast start with a goal less than two minutes into the match and five in the first 30 minutes of play.
Anna Richárd added two more goals to extend her team-best seven goals while
Haley Long,
Reagan Cullen and
Gabriela Enciso all added goals in the first half. Additionally,
Hanna Doerr tallied her first career goal in the second half of the match.
Belmont Abbey improves its overall record to 7-1-2 and extends its unbeaten streak to nine matches. Virginia State is 0-8-2 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Long got the Crusaders on the board after scoring off a shot off the crossbar from Madison Gnolfo. Gnolfo was credited with the assist.
- The next three goals for the Abbey came in a stretch of 1:06.
- Richárd scored the first of her two goals in the 18th minute with assists from Cullen and Addie Galek.
- Cullen added to her total with an assist from Long 46 seconds later while Richárd scored 20 seconds after that.
- Enciso scored the goal off an assist from Cullen in the 29th minute to close the scoring in the half.
- Belmont Abbey outshot Virginia State 20-0 in the first half and 28-3 for the contest.
- The Crusaders added two more goals in the second half: one coming off an own goal in the 56th minute and the other coming from Doerr.
- Grace Siders and Grace Gilmore were both credited with assists on the final goal.
- The seven goals sets a new season-high in goals scored for the Abbey.
