BELMONT, N.C. --
Addie Galek scored early in the second half to tie the game at 1, but a Lees-McRae goal with only 26.0 seconds remaining lifted the Bobcats to a thrilling 2-1 victory over Belmont Abbey in Conference Carolinas women's soccer action Saturday afternoon. Jordan Bartlinski floated a shot from just outside the penalty area into the far corner for the game-winner.
The result was the first loss in 10 games for the Crusaders, who fall to 7-2-2 overall, 5-1-2 in league play and 2-1-2 in Northwest Division play. LMC takes over sole possession of first place in the division at 5-2-1, 4-0-1, 3-0-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Lees-McRae took a 1-0 lead with a goal just 21 seconds before halftime.
- The score was tied for 84:54 of the 90 minutes, while the teams played to a 0-0 in the first meeting last month.
- All three scores were unassisted.
- Belmont Abbey's Brianna Sroka was forced into just one save, while the Bobcat keeper needed to stop three shots.
- The Crusaders outshot Lees-McRae 11-3 overall and 4-3 on goal.
- The Abbey also held a 5-1 edge in corner kicks.
