Crusaders Return Home to Battle Wingate

BELMONT, N.C. — Casey Etter scored for the second straight game and Chloe Parker made eight saves as the Belmont Abbey field hockey team returned to action to host Wingate Tuesday afternoon at Alumni Field.

Despite those efforts, the Crusaders fell 4-1 to the Bulldogs Tuesday afternoon.

Belmont Abbey is now 0-9 overall on the season and 0-7 in South Atlantic Conference play. Wingate is now 7-1 overall and 5-1 in the league.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Bulldogs got on the board first with a penalty stroke goal from Riley Robinson near the midway point of the first quarter.
  • Robinson added a second goal in the final two minutes of the first half to extend the Wingate lead to 2-0.
  • Parker made four saves in the third quarter to keep the game at a 2-0 score.
  • Marie Camastro took the first shot of the game for the Abbey in the third quarter.
  • Rylie Cordrey scored a pair of goals for the Bulldogs in the fourth quarter.
  • The Crusaders took four shots in the fourth quarter highlighted by the fifth goal of the season from Casey Etter.
  • Belmont Abbey took seven penalty corners in the contest.
  • Camastro and Isabel Stankiewicz took two shots each for the Abbey.

UP NEXT
  • Belmont Abbey will play its next two contests on the road starting on Saturday at Limestone at noon in Gaffney, S.C.
  • The Crusaders then head to Coker next Wednesday before returning home for a contest against Mount Olive at 1 p.m. October 19.
