BELMONT, N.C. -- Belmont Abbey scored the final nine points of the fourth set -- fighting off seven set points that would have forced a deciding fifth -- en route to a 3-1 (25-23, 21-25, 29-27, 26-24) Homecoming victory over Francis Marion Saturday afternoon. After winning two of the first three sets, the Crusaders trailed 20-12 and 24-17 in the fourth.
Tyler Case registered her fourth double-double of the season, and 10th of her career to lead The Abbey (5-8 overall and 3-1 in Conference Carolinas play). The Patriots fall to 2-11, 1-3)
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Case finished the contest with 15 kills and 15 digs. She hit .265 in the contest (15k-6e-34a), while adding an assist and a block assist.
- Katie Brookins shared the team kills lead with 15, while chipping in a block assist and four digs.
- Chloe Lowder and Lola Sultfenfuss each registered nine kills. Lowder added five blocks, while Sultenfuss connected at a team-high .320 clip.
- Riley Nickol served a team-best three aces, and tallied four assists and seven digs.
- The Crusaders finished with six aces.
- Ella Schellenberg dished out 41 assists with five digs and two aces.
- Libero Lily Marsh matched the team best with 15 digs, while Kyleigh Coghlan tallied eight.
- The win was the fourth in five matches.
