BRISTOL, Tenn. --
Trent McConnaughey posted his second shutout of the season and four different players scored a goal, leading Belmont Abbey to a 4-0 victory at King in Conference Carolinas men's soccer action Wednesday afternoon. The win was the fourth straight for the Crusaders, who are challenging for a berth in the league tournament next month.
With the victory, The Abbey evens its overall record at 7-7-2 (4-6-1 in league play and 2-5-0 n the Northwest Division. The Tornado falls to 3-7-4, 2-5-4 and 2-2-4.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Belmont Abbey tallied the only goal in the first 45 minutes when Marcos Frias found the net unassisted 16:56 into the contest.
- Pat Hissim doubled the lead from Greer Hopkins at 54:05, then Mikey Reid struck from Ian Pitstick in the 71st minute.
- Pa Njie capped the scoring with just under eight minutes remaining to make the score 4-0.
- McConnaughey needed to make just two saves to keep the clean sheet. He also shut out Shaw exactly one week ago.
