Lola Sultenfuss both tallied eight kills and Belmont Abbey hit a season-high .315, lifting the Crusaders to a 3-0 (25-17, 25-11, 25-17) victory over Lees-McRae in Conference Carolinas women's volleyball action Tuesday night. The match was originally slated for November 8 but moved up to accommodate rescheduling within the league due to Hurricane Helene.
With the win, Belmont Abbey improves to 7-16 and 5-9 in league play (1-5 in the Northwest Division), while the Bobcats fall to 10-11, 2-8, 1-3. The teams split the regular-season series, each winning at home.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Louder hit 6:15 in the contest with no errors in 13 chances. She also tallied three block assists.
- Sultenfuss had just three errors in 15 chances for a 333 percentage. She had a pair of blocks.
- Ella Schellenberg dished out 21 assists, while registering a kill, an ace, a block assists and four digs.
- Mallory Swain led the defensive effort with six digs, while Kyleigh Coghlan added five. In total, eight Crusaders had at least one dig.
- Riley Nickol and Swain had three service aces. The Abbey reached double digits in the category for the fifth time this year.
- The Crusaders, who snapped a six-match losing streak, finished the offensive statistics with 31 kills against eight errors in 72 chances.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Belmont Abbey faces back-to-back road games before the 2024 home finale.
- The Crusaders start the stretch against league newcomer Shorter on Saturday.
- A match against Mars Hill scheduled for Oct. 31 had to be canceled due to re-scheduling issues with the South Atlantic Conference.
