BELMONT, N.C. — Hailey Leatherman scored her fourth goal of the season and
Sarah Schumacher earned her first career assist as the Belmont Abbey field hockey team hosted Limestone Tuesday to begin a three-game homestand to close the regular season.
Despite the goal and assist, Limestone came away with the 2-1 victory over the Crusaders.
With the result, elmont Abbey is now 2-12 overall and 2-10 in South Atlantic Conference play. Limestone is now 10-5 overall and 9-3 in the league.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both teams were locked in a defensive battle in the first half with just one penalty corner in the first quarter.
- The Saints got on the board in the second quarter with a goal from Zoe Bergmann to take a 1-0 halftime lead.
- The Crusaders pulled even at 1-1 thanks to Leatherman's goal via a Schumacher assist on the penalty corner.
- Bergmann put the Saints back ahead less than 90 seconds later with her second goal of the day.
- The Crusaders finished with five penalty corners on the day compared to one for the Saints.
