BELMONT, N.C. -- Six different Crusaders scored a goal with
Haley Long and
Gabriela Enciso each adding an assist for two points as Belmont Abbey rallied from an early deficit for a 6-1 victory over King in Conference Carolinas women's soccer action on Wednesday afternoon at Alumni Field.
With the win, The Abbey ran its unbeaten streak to seven games at 5-1-2 overall and 4-0-2 in league play. The Tornado fall to 0-5-1, 0-3-1.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
- King took a surprise 1-0 lead just 2:27 into the contest on a breakaway goal off a goalie punt.
- But the Crusaders scored the next six goals, beginning with Anna Richard just about six minutes later.
- They gained a 2-1 lead on a Sabrina Cunha strike at the 36:03 mark.
- Enciso, Long and Alyssa Espinosa scored goals in a span of seven minutes to make the score 5-1, while Grace Gilmore added a tally with 8:28 remaining for the final margin.
- The six goals were a season-high for The Abbey, while 15 shots on goal equaled the season best.
- Wednesday's result marked the completion of the first round of Northwest Division Play. The Crusaders currently hold a 2-0-2 Division record.
