Second-Half Surge Leads Crusaders to 4-0 Senior Day Win

BELMONT, N.C. -- Belmont Abbey broke a scoreless tie at intermission with a four-goal outburst in the second half, leading the Crusaders to a 4-0 victory over Virginia State in non-conference men's soccer action Saturday night.

The contest served as Senior Day for The Abbey, which honored 18 developmental and varsity team members in a pregame ceremony.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Despite the scoreless first half, the Crusaders held a significant advantage offensively with 12 shots compared to just one for the Trojans.
  • Six of those shots were on target.
  • Belmont Abbey's breakthrough came off of a header from Ian Pitstick for his second goal of the season. Greer Hopkins and Josh Ainge were credited with assists on the play.
  • The Crusaders added a second goal in a span of 2:23 when Jorge Aguilar scored from the near post. Sam Jordan and Emrick Stanley earned assists as well.
  • Jordan scored his first goal of the season on a penalty kick in the 58th minute.
  • Jesse Coleman capped the scoring with his first goal of the year in the 67th minute off an assist from Josh Gregg.
  • 28 Crusaders saw playing time in Saturday's win including seven making their first appearances of the season.
  • Belmont Abbey out-shot Virginia State 25-3 for the night and had 12 shots on target.
