Crusaders Defeat Shaw 2-0 For Second Consecutive Win

DURHAM, N.C. — The Belmont Abbey men's soccer team used a pair of first-half goals to take an early lead and earn a 2-0 victory over Shaw Wednesday evening at Durham County Memorial Stadium.
 
The Crusaders earned their second straight win with goals from Sam Jordan and Ian Pitstick to earn its second straight win. It is the second straight match that both have scored and they both have three goals each on the season.
 
Additionally, Trent McConnaughey earned his first shutout of the season and made four saves.
 
With the victory, Belmont Abbey is now 5-7-2 on the season. Shaw is 4-9.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Crusaders got on the board quickly thanks to Jordan's conversion in the fifth minute. It was Jordan's first goal from the run of play this season.
  • Jorge Aguilar and Marcos Frias were credited with assists on the play.
  • The Crusaders added the second goal in the 25th minute when Ian Pitstick headed the ball in off an Emrick Stanley throw-in.
  • Josh Ainge led the team with six shots, all of which were on target.
  • Greer Hopkins had two shots on target as well for the Abbey.
  • McConnaughey made two saves in each half.
  • The 11 shots on goal were the second-most in that category in a single game second only to the Virginia State game this past Saturday.
  • Belmont Abbey had four corner kicks compared to just one for Shaw.
 
UP NEXT 
  • The Crusaders host Francis Marion at 7 p.m. Saturday at Alumni Field.
  • It will be the final home match of the regular season for the Abbey.
