McConnaughey Makes Career-High Eight Saves at Converse

SPARTANBURG, S.C. — Trent McConnaughey made a career-best eight saves in his second start of the season as the Belmont Abbey men's soccer team faced Converse Wednesday evening at Weisiger Stadium.
 
The Crusaders battled but the Valkyries came away with the 2-0 victory in the Northwest Division contest.
 
Belmont Abbey is now 3-7-2 overall and 2-6-1 in Conference Carolinas play. Converse is 8-1-1 overall and 5-0 in league play.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Crusaders had the first chance of the match on target from Marcos Frias in the second minute of the match.
  • Frias led the Abbey with four shots, including two on goal in his first start of the season.
  • Converse's first goal of the match came 24 minutes into the contest.
  • The second goal for the Valkyries came in the 79th minute.
  • Pat Hissim took two shots for the Abbey with Drew Daunt, Jesse Coleman and Josh Ainge recording shots as well.
  • McConnaughey made six saves in the second half.

  • Belmont Abbey is scheduled to host Virginia State in a nonconference match at 7 p.m. Saturday at Alumni Field.
