HARROGATE, Tenn. — Casey Etter tallied a goal and assist while
Hailey Leatherman and
McKinley Soto both scored goals as the Belmont Abbey field hockey team defeated Lincoln Memorial 3-1 Monday afternoon at the LMU Lacrosse Complex.
The contest had been rescheduled from October 5th due to Hurricane Helene.
Etter scored a goal for the third time in four games while Leatherman got on the scoresheet for the second time in as many games. Soto's goal was the first of her collegiate career.
With the win, Belmont Abbey is now 1-10 overall and 1-8 in league play. Lincoln Memorial is now 0-7 overall in South Atlantic Conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Crusaders struck first eight minutes into the game with Etter's goal, her sixth of the season. It was also the first shot of the game for the Abbey.
- The Railsplitters pulled even later in the quarter off of a penalty stroke.
- Leatherman gave the Abbey the lead once again with her goal just over two minutes into the second quarter off the assist from Etter.
- Soto extended the Crusader lead with her tally less than 30 seconds before halftime.
- Chloe Parker kept LMU off the board in the second half with three saves in the second half. She finished with six for the contest.
- Both teams finished with eight shots total and seven on target.
- The Crusaders also had five penalty corners on the day.
- It was the first time that the Crusaders had played at Lincoln Memorial after the two teams played in Belmont and Davidson, respectively, the last two seasons.
UP NEXT
- The Crusaders close out the three-game road trip with a contest against Coker at 4 p.m. Thursday in Hartsville, S.C.
- The game was pushed back a day from its previously scheduled time.
- Belmont Abbey returns home to face Mount Olive at 1 p.m. Saturday at Alumni Field.
