Mason Taylor and
Kyle Frazier each topped 20 points and
DJ Holloway reached double figures for the second straight game, leading Belmont Abbey to a 72-57 victory over Southern Wesleyan in Conference Carolinas men's basketball action Saturday afternoon.
With its season-best third straight win, the Crusaders improve to 8-12 overall and 6-4 in league play. The Warriors fall to 3-18, 2-8.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Taylor's 24 points marked the seventh time he has topped 20 this year - all in the last 12 games. He also grabbed a team-high nine rebounds.
- Frasier tallied 21 points while DJ Holloway connected for 12 points, the third time this season in double figures.
- Holloway also dished out five assists and grabbed five rebounds.
- Wade Jackson grabbed a season-best eight rebounds.
- Khamani Wertz dished out a career-high six assists, while chipping in nine points.
- Belmont Abbey forced SWU into 17 turnovers while committing only 10. The +7 margin is tied for the largest in of the year.
- The Abbey hit 47.4 percent (27 of 57) from the field with 10 three-pointers. The Warriors were limited to just 42.6 percent (23 of 54) from the field.
- The Crusaders used just seven players in the contest due to injuries.
UP NEXT
- Belmont Abbey heads out on the road again on Wednesday, when the Crusaders face Northwest Division rival Converse.
- The Abbey took the first meeting 84-81 in Belmont on Dec. 16.
- The first KPI rating of the year will be released by the conference office on Monday. The ratings standings will be used to seed the conference tournament, beginning in March.
