BELMONT, N.C. -- Five players reached double figures -- led by double-doubles by both
Mason Taylor and
Wade Jackson -- leading Belmont Abbey to a 93-62 non-conference victory over Virginia-Lynchburg in men's basketball action Tuesday night. Taylor finished with 21 points and a career-high 13 rebounds, while Jackson tallied 12 points and a career-best 10 assists.
The Crusaders improve to 7-12 overall, wrapping up the non-conference slate for the season. The Dragons remain winless at 0-20.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Jacori Owens tallied 15 points, while DJ Holloway added 11 and a career-high nine rebounds. Judah Sault scored 10 points, matching his career-best, while chipping in six boards.
- All 10 players in uniform registered points, including the first of the season for Lolo Francis and the first in the career of Jalen Rivens.
- The Abbey shot 46.1 percent (35 of 76) from the field, hitting 14 three-pointers. Virginia-Lynchburg was limited to 33.8 percent shooting (24 of 71).
- The Crusaders grabbed 59 rebounds to the Dragons' 28. The rebounding total was the second-most in school history behind 66 vs. Johnson and Wales in 2011-12.
- The 50 points in the first half, fueled by a 19-2 early run and 13 straight points later in the period, equalled the most of the year in the opening period. The final total was just three points off the season-high for a game.
- A 40-point lead in the final three minutes was the biggest of the season.
- The Crusaders have not trailed in either of the last two contests.
- The Crusaders won back-to-back games for the second time this year. They will try for their first three-game winning streak on Saturday.
