BELMONT, N.C. – The Belmont Abbey men's soccer team rallied from a halftime deficit and earned its second Conference Carolinas win of the season with a 2-1 victory over Lees-McRae Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field.
Both Crusader goals came in the second half in the span of 3:45 from
Jorge Aguilar and
Eric Carter. It was the first goals of the season for both players.
Belmont Abbey improved to 4-3-1 overall, 2-1 in conference. Lees-McRae are 2-3-2 overall with an identical 2-1 record in league play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Bobcats took the lead with a set-piece goal in the 25th minute from Nils Schulze.
- Aguilar scored his goal off of a deflection in the box via a corner kick from Davis McBee.
- Carter added his goal via a corner kick as well.
- The Crusaders outshot the Bobcats 14-5 in the contest, including eight to four in shots on goal.
- The Abbey finished with 10 corner kicks for the afternoon. '
- Additionally, Belmont Abbey wore socks dedicated to the 1989 men's soccer team being inducted into the Athletics Hall of Fame Saturday night.
- Will Whitman made three saves in goal.
- Aguilar led the team with four shots and three on goal.
