SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Belmont Abbey women's soccer team went on the road to open Conference Carolinas play at Converse Saturday evening at Weisiger Stadium. In the first of two meetings this season, the Crusaders came back to earn a point with a 1-1 draw against the Valkyries.
After Converse scored in the first half,
Logan Parry scored a goal with just over six minutes remaining in the match to pull even.
The Abbey is 2-1-2 overall, 0-0-1 in the league. Converse is 1-2-2 overall and 1-1-1 in the conference.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Sabrina Cunha took the first shot on goal for the Crusaders seven minutes into the match.
- The goal for the Valkyries came in the 20th minute on their first shot of the contest.
- The Crusaders had a 10-2 advantage in corner kicks.
- Brianna Sroka finished with three saves for the contest.
- Belmont Abbey outshot Converse 14-5 but the Valkryies had four shots on goal compared to three for The Abbey.
- Paige D'Agostin led the Crusaders with four shots.
- Parry's goal was her seventh of the season, tied for the Conference Carolinas lead with Kristian Syragakis of Francis Marion. The seven goals is a new career best.
- Saturday's contest marked the final match of three straight on the road for the Crusaders.
