Men’s Soccer Travels To Converse For First Road Match of Season

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – After five straight home games to open the season, the Belmont Abbey men's soccer team went on the road for the first time this season facing Converse in Conference Carolinas play Saturday night at Weisiger Stadium.
 
The Crusaders fell behind early and tried to rally but it was the Valkyries who came away with the 4-0 victory.
 
Belmont Abbey is 2-2-2 overall, 1-1 in the conference. Converse is 3-2 overall with an identical 1-1 record in league play.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Zion Duncan and Kevin Daly accounted for the first two shots of the match for the Crusaders.
  • Converse got on the board with a goal in the 12th minute and added a penalty kick goal in the 36th minute for a 2-0 halftime lead.
  • The Valkyries added two goals less than a minute apart in the second half.
  • Duncan, Nate Cox and Patrick Hissim took a shot on goal in the mathc.
  • Will Whitman and Jackson Gurr made one save each for The Abbey.
 
UP NEXT
  • The Crusaders return home to face Shaw at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Alumni Field.
  • Wednesday's contest will mark the final nonconference game for The Abbey.
