Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Crusaders Open Season with 4-2 Win over Anderson

BELMONT, N.C. -- Senior Gabriela Enciso scored twice and freshman Haley Long added a goal and an assist in her first collegiate contest, lifting Belmont Abbey to a 4-2 come-from-behind win over Anderson in non-conference women's soccer action Thursday afternoon. The game was the season opener for both teams.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Abbey trailed 1-0 at halftime but tallied three unanswered goals in a 21-minute span early in the second half.
  • Enciso tied the contest at 1-1 with unassisted tally at the 50:50 mark, turning back toward the middle and sending the ball into the top right corner off the keeper's fingertip.
  • Eleven minutes later, Long put the Crusaders up 2-1 with a run down the right flank after a pass from sophomore transfer Addie Galek.
  • Enciso increased the lead at 71:48 when she had just enough on a shot to deflect it off the Trojan keeper into the goal. Galek slotted a ball to the right side of the six-yard box for her second assist of the contest.
  • Anderson cut the gap back to 3-2 less than two minutes later, but BAC Sealed the victory with a fourth goal with just 4:21 remaining. Long found a wide-open Sabrina Cunha at the top of box for the 4-2 lead.
  • Belmont Abbey outshot Anderson 26-15 and had a 9-2 advantage in corner kicks.
  • Brianna Sroka made five saves in goal, while her counterpart Vicky McGovern registered eight saves in the loss.
UP NEXT
  • Belmont Abbey returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Virginia State at Alumni Field.
  • The 4:30 p.m. match will be the inaugural contest for the Trojan program.
