GAFFNEY, S.C. – Garrett Browder went 4-for-5 to lead the Belmont Abbey baseball team move to 5-0 on the season thanks to a 7-4 victory at Limestone Tuesday at Founders FCU Stadium.
The four hits by Browder is the most by any Crusader in a single game so far in the young season while
Ben Ferguson and
Joe Whitaker each had two hits in the victory. The team also cranked out 12 hits, the most so far in 2023.
Nic Aehlert earned the win by allowing just one hit in 2.1 innings of relief.
Limestone dropped to 3-1 with the loss.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Ferguson was the first Crusader to reach base with a single in the top of the first inning and got to third base on a wild pitch and stolen base.
- Browder drove him in with an RBI single and Connor Powell followed that with a two-run single two batters later to score Browder and Connor Tucker, who walked.
- Alex Sniffen made the start and allowed one run on two hits in two innings.
- After Limestone tied the game at 3-3 in the third inning, Belmont Abbey re-catptured the lead on a sacrifice fly by Carter DuHaime to score Patrick Taylor. Taylor had a one-out single and advanced to third on an error and a passed ball.
- The sixth inning saw The Abbey plate two more runs with an RBI double by Ferguson and an RBI single by Tucker.
- The final run for the Crusaders came in the eighth inning with an RBI singly by Browder to score Carter DuHaime. DuHaime led the inning off by reaching on an error.
- Six Abbey pitchers saw action in the game, including the first appearance of the season by Andrew Glauber.

- The Crusaders play their first home series of the season at Abbey Yard with a three-game series against Trevecca Nazarene.
