MARS HILL, N.C. -- Four different players scored twice each and a five-goal fourth quarter broke open a close game, lifting Belmont Abbey to a 10-5 victory over Mars Hill in the men's lacrosse action Saturday afternoon. The contest was the season-opener for both teams.
Matthew Wyatt scored a pair of goals and dished out an assist for three points, while David McCulley,
Tim Palmer, and
Riley Arsenault each added two goals.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Palmer tallied the only goal in the opening 15 minutes, a man-up situation with 1:21 left in the quarter.Â
- The Lions answered with back-to-back goals, but the Crusaders went back ahead 3-2 by intermission.
- With the score tied 3-3, The Abbey scored four straight between the third and fourth quarters to pull away.
- The fourth-quarter score was 5-2.
- James Bucher and Mason Thomas caused two turnovers each, while Caleb Mulcahy won 14 of 19 faceoffs.
- Thomas Sullivan made 10 saves in goal to earn the win.
