Wade Jackson and
Mason Taylor each topped 20 points and
Mario Lacy, Jr., posted his eighth double-double of the season but Belmont Abbey fell short of a hot-shooting Chowan team, 98-90, in Conference Carolinas men's basketball action Saturday afternoon.
The result leaves the Crusaders 16-9 overall and 12-5 in league play, tied for third with three games remaining. The Hawks improve to 12-10, 10-7.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Jackson tallied 21 points, while Taylor hit for 20. Charles Solomon was the fourth Crusader in double figures with 10 points.
- The Abbey shot 47.7 percent from the field, but could not stop a hot-shooting Hawks team from hitting 55.2%. Both teams were over 50% in the opening 20 minutes.
- The Abbey trail by as many as 20 with 5:49 left in the first half before closing to within 13 points at intermission, 53-40. It tied the score twice in the second half, the last at the 6:42 mark.
- Chowan scored the final seven points of the game after the Crusaders had the ball down 91-90 with 1:40 remaining.
- Belmont Abbey held a 35-34 rebounding advantage, but had four more turnovers.
