BELMONT, N.C. --
Mason Taylor topped Belmont Abbey in both points and rebounds, but an off shooting night led to Barton earning an 83-62 victory over the Crusaders in Conference Carolinas men's basketball action Saturday afternoon. Taylor finished the game with 14 points and seven rebounds.
The game served as the league opener for both teams. The Crusaders fall to 1-6 overall, while the Bulldogs improve to 3-5.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Taylor hit 6-of-13 from the field and two free throws in the contest. He had four of his rebounds on the offensive glass and also dished out an assist.
- Wade Jackson was the only other player to reach double figures with 13 points.
- Jacori Owens tied for the team rebounding lead with seven, while also blocking a pair of shot attempts.
- The Crusaders hit just 39.3 percent (22 of 56) from the field, including 36.7 percent (11 of 30) in the opening period.
- The Abbey's seven three-pointers were a season low, as was a 28.0 percentage from beyond the arc.
- BAC went 6:22 without scoring in the second allowing, allowing Barton to stretch a 43-35 lead to 63-35 with 12:20 remaining.
