MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. -- For the second straight game,
Mason Taylor scored a career-high 29 points and
Jacori Owens added his career-best of 22 points, lifting Belmont Abbey to a 96-83 victory over Mount Olive Saturday in Conference Carolinas men's basketball action.
Winning consecutive games for the first time this season, the Crusaders improve to 3-7 overall and 2-1 in league play. The Trojans fall to 1-10, 0-2.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Taylor hit 12 of 19 field goal attempts, including two from behind the arc, and three free throws to match his effort against Converse Wednesday night.
- Owens made 11 field goals in 12 attempts, while also grabbing a team-high seven rebounds.
- Darius Kane was the third player to reach double figures in the contest, topping the mark for the first time with 11.
- Taylor added five rebounds and team-highs in assists (four) and steals (two).
- The Crusaders hit a season-best 58.5% from the field overall (38-of-65). It was just the second time this season that The Abbey made at least half its shots.
- The 96 points were also a season-high.
- The 64.7 percent (22-of-34) shooting effort after intermission was the best half of the season.
- The teams were tied at 39 less than a minute into the second half when Kyle Frazier hit a three-pointers to put the Abbey ahead for good. The biggest lead was 21 twice in the final 4:10.
