BELMONT, N.C. – The Belmont Abbey women's volleyball team closed out the 2023 regular season with a five-set match against King Monday night at the Wheeler Center. The Crusaders and Tornado battled back and forth but it was King who earned the win with a 3-2 (24-26, 25-17, 18-25, 25-21, 15-13) result over The Abbey.
Belmont Abbey is now 5-19 overall and 5-11 on the season. King closes the regular season 10-16 overall and 6-10 in the conference.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Ella Schellenberg finished with 44 assists on the match, her second-highest total of the season. It was the third time this season that she has earned 40 or more assists
- Tyler Case finished with a double-double of 14 kills and 14 digs.
- After Case, Lily Marsh 12 digs and Riley Nickol had 11 digs. Nickol also led the team with five aces.
- Jenna McCullough had 12 kills and finished with a hitting percentage of .333.
- Lola Soltenfuss played in all five sets and had eight kills, the same total as Cameron Young.
UP NEXT
- The Crusaders will compete in the opening round of the Conference Carolinas Women's Volleyball Tournament as the No. 12 seed.
- Belmont Abbey will play No. 7 seed Converse at 1 p.m. on Saturday in Banner Elk, N.C.
- The winner will turn around and play host Lees-McRae, the No. 6 seed, immediately following.
