WINTER PARK, Fla. – Janiah Shular recorded her first collegiate double-double and four Crusaders reached double figures scoring as Belmont Abbey defeated Rollins 60-46 Friday afternoon in a nonconference women's basketball contest Friday afternoon.
Shular recorded 12 points and 12 rebounds along with a pair of steals.
Peyton Nation finished one rebound shy of a double-double as she had 10 points and nine rebounds. In a return to her home state,
Abigail Crain finished with a game-high 13 points while
Cate Schieber had 12 after making four 3-pointers.
Belmont Abbey improved to 4-1 following Friday's game. Rollins is now 1-2.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Crusaders scored 20 points in the first quarter highlighted by an 8-0 run midway through the period.
- Crain connected on three field goals in the second quarter to as Belmont Abbey took an eight-point lead into the locker room. She has scored in double-figures in all five games so far this season.
- Schieber made two 3-pointers in the quarter as Belmont Abbey led by as many as 11 points in the quarter.
- An 11-2 run in the fourth quarter helped put the game away for The Abbey as the team led by as many as 15 points.
- The Crusaders outrebounded the Tars 45-39 led by the 12 from Shular and nine from Nation. Crain and Katherine Bischoping had five rebounds as well.
- Crain and Dearia Page had three assists to lead the Abbey.
- The Crusaders had 10 steals with Shular, Page and Schieber with two each. Additionally, Schieber blocked two shots.
- Belmont Abbey held its opponent to 50 or fewer points for the third time this year. The Crusaders accomplished that feat 14 times last season.
