WINTER PARK, Fla. – The Belmont Abbey women's basketball team wrapped up its Thanksgiving weekend road trip to Florida with a nonconference contest against Florida Southern Saturday afternoon at Rollins College's Warner Arena.
The Crusaders were able to take a 11-point lead in the second half, however, the Mocs rallied late and came away with a 64-61 win.
Abigail Crain finished with a game-high 17 points to go with seven rebounds, four assists and a blocked shot. Nation finished in double figures scoring for the second straight game with a season-high 15 points, eight rebounds and two steals.
Belmont Abbey is now 4-2 on the season while Florida Southern remains unbeaten with a 5-0 record.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Cate Schieber got the Crusaders on the board with a 3-pointer just over two minutes into the contest.
- Janiah Shular finished in double figures with 10 points and made her first basket with a layup with 3:38 left in the first quarter. It was tied 13-13 after the first 10 minutes.
- Nation scored the first four points of the second quarter for The Abbey as the team took a four-point lead into halftime.
- Crain's three-point play with 1:31 left in the third quarter gave Belmont Abbey its largest lead of the game at 46-35.
- Eight of Nation's 15 points came in the third quarter.
- The Crusaders led 55-50 in the quarter before a 7-0 run from the Mocs gave them the lead back.
- Belmont Abbey tied the game at 57 but Domenica Zamora scored the final seven points for Florida Southern to take the lead and hold on.
- The Crusaders shot 49 percent from the field, a new season-best.
- Schieber led the team with three steals on the day.
- Belmont Abbey out-rebounded Florida Southern 33-30 in the contest.
