BELMONT, N.C. – The Belmont Abbey men's soccer team got back on the winning track thanks to a 4-0 victory over Erskine Monday night at Alumni Field.
The match was completed from its previous scheduled start date of September 30 after the match was suspended after 10 minutes of play due to darkness.
Four different Crusaders tallied goals in the match including the first career goal for
Ian Pitstick in the first half.
Felipe Baptista scored for the second straight match while Caelen Smith and
Dorian Samo also scored for The Abbey.
With the victory, Belmont Abbey improves to 6-4-1 overall and 4-2 in Conference Carolinas play. Erskine is 0-10 overall, 0-7 in the league.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Crusaders had taken two shots prior to the suspension of play on September 30.
- Baptista's goal came off an assist from Zion Duncan in the 22nd minute.
- Belmont Abbey added a second goal off the foot of Ian Pitstick just over two minutes later off an assist from Davis McBee.
- Smith scored his second goal of the year in the 38th minute off another McBee assist.
- Samo capped the scoring with his first goal of the season in the 74th minute.
- Belmont Abbey finished with a season-best 28 shots and 16 shots on target.
- All three Crusader goalkeepers – Will Whitman, Trent McConnaughey and Jackson Gurr – all saw playing time in the win.
- Whitman made the only save of the night for the Crusaders.
