Abbey Celebrates Homecoming with Victory over Barton

BELMONT, N.C. – Logan Parry continued her torrid scoring pace with a goal in her third straight match and the lone goal held up as the Belmont Abbey women's soccer team defeated Barton 1-0 on Homecoming Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field.
 
Parry scored her national-leading 14th goal of the season in the seventh minute of the match. It is also fifth time in the last six matches that she has scored for the Crusaders.
 
Belmont Abbey improved to 5-2-3 overall and 3-1-2 in Conference Carolinas play with the victory. Barton is now 2-4-2 overall and 2-3-1 in the league.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Crusaders came out on the attack early by placing its first three shots of the match on target before Parry scored the lone goal of the match.
  • Sabrina Cunha recorded an assist for the third straight match as well for the Crusaders.
  • Belmont Abbey finished with 21 shots for the match led by four each from Parry, Cunha and Gabriela Enciso. Alyssa Espinosa was just behind with three shots.
  • The Crusaders had eight of 21 shots on target. Barton had six shots for the match, two on target.
  • Belmont Abbey held a 6-5 advantage in corner kicks over Barton.
  • Brianna Sroka made two saves for the Crusaders in Saturday's contest.
  • She also recorded her second solo shutout of the season in the win. 
 
UP NEXT
  • The Crusaders are on the road for three of their next four matches beginning Wednesday at Lees-McRae at 4:30 p.m. in Banner Elk, N.C.
  • Belmont Abbey finished in a 2-2 draw with the Bobcats back on Sept. 23.
  • The Abbey returns home for a match against Converse at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, October 17 at Alumni Field.
