Cullen’s Goal Lifts Crusaders To Road Win at Lees-McRae

BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Belmont Abbey women's soccer team earned a pivotal Conference Carolinas road win Wednesday thanks to its 1-0 victory over Lees-McRae at Tate Field. It was the second time this season the two teams have met in the new three-division format.
 
In her first start of the season, Reagan Cullen scored the only goal of the match for the Crusaders in the first half and it held up as The Abbey won its second straight 1-0 match and three of its last four overall.
 
With the victory, Belmont Abbey improved to 6-2-3 overall and 4-1-2 in the conference. Lees-McRae is now 2-7-2 overall and 2-3-2 in league play.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Cullen's goal came off an assist from Gabriela Enciso on a corner kick and a pass from Haley Long.
  • The strike came in the 18th minute and Cullen's goal was the first shot of the match from either side. It was also the only shot on goal for the match.
  • The Crusaders held the Bobcats to just three shots for the match and one in the final 45 minutes of play.
  • The Abbey had three corner kicks compared to just one from the Bobcats.
  • Belmont Abbey took six shots, the fewest in a match this season.
  • Cullen and Long took two shots each for the Crusaders with Sabrina Cunha and Logan Parry recording one shot each.
 
UP NEXT
  • Belmont Abbey heads back on the road to face Mount Olive at 4 p.m. Saturday.
  • The Crusaders will play their penultimate home match against Converse at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at Alumni Field.
