Crusaders Shut Out Bulldogs For Second Straight Victory

WINGATE, N.C. – Chloe Parker made six saves and the Belmont Abbey field hockey team scored a goal in each of the first three quarters as the Crusaders earned a 3-0 victory over Wingate Tuesday at Graham Gill Field.

Casey Etter scored a goal in her third straight game while Jillian Cain and Lainey Rogers tallied their second goals of the season in the victory.

Belmont Abbey has won three of its last four contests and are now 3-6 overall and 3-4 in South Atlantic Conference play. Wingate is 2-8 overall and 2-6 in the league.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Crusaders withstood an early surge from the Bulldogs, who took five shots in the first three minutes of the contest.
  • Belmont Abbey scored with 3:40 remaining in the opening quarter when Etter scored off an assist from Jessica Rybicki. The Abbey had two straight penalty corners prior to the goal.
  • Rybicki was also credited with a defensive save in the game.
  • The Crusaders' second goal came just before halftime off of the stick of Lainey Rogers to extend the lead.
  • Cain tallied her second goal in as many games early in the third quarter off an assist from Cuinn Deely.
  • Parker earned her third shutout in the last four games and the 14th for her career. She now has 229 saves for her career.
  • Belmont Abbey made the most of its chances with six shots on the game and five on goal. The Bulldogs had 15 shots and seven on goals.
  • Both The Abbey and Wingate finished with five penalty corners each.

UP NEXT
Belmont Abbey plays its next two games at home starting at 2 p.m. Friday against Limestone at Field Day Park.
The other home matchup will be against Coker at 1 p.m. next Tuesday also at Field Day Park.
