Crusaders Celebrate Senior Night With 2-0 Victory Over King

BELMONT, N.C. – The Belmont Abbey men's soccer team celebrated Senior Night on a good note thanks to a 2-0 victory over King Wednesday evening at Alumni Field. The Crusaders scored both goals in the first half and used a solid defensive effort over the full 90 minutes to get the win.
 
Prior to the match, 10 seniors were honored in a ceremony recognizing their accomplishments during their time in the program. They are as follows: William Arbalaez, Leo Giddens, Chris Soudir, Arvid Engstrom, Dorian Samo, Brett Ramsey, Eric Carter, Nathan Berhe, Nate Cox and Adam Charlton.
 
Belmont Abbey is now 10-4-2 overall on the season and 8-2-1 in Conference Carolinas. The Crusaders reached 10 wins for the first time since the 2010 season when the team finished 10-6-3.
 
King is now 3-12-1 overall and 0-10-1 in league play.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Crusaders got on the board just over nine minutes into the match with the team-leading sixth goal of the season by Walter Gomez.
  • The Abbey added a second goal thanks to the right foot of Felipe Baptista as he scored from well outside the box in the 33rd minute.
  • Davis McBee was credited with goals on both assists. McBee has 14 assists on the season and he entered the match just one behind the national lead.
  • Belmont Abbey outshot King 17-4 and had a 10-1 advantage in shots on goal.
  • Baptista led the Crusaders with four shots as 11 players took a shot for the team.
  • Trent McConnaughey earned the shutout and made one save.
 
UP NEXT
  • The Belmont Abbey men's soccer team closes out the regular season with a match at Conference Carolinas newcomer Young Harris at 4:30 p.m. Saturday.
  • The Crusaders and Mountain Lions enter the final match at No. 4 and No. 2, respectively, in the KPI that will determine seeding for the conference tournament.
