CENTRAL, S.C. -- Belmont Abbey struck for six goals in the first 38 minutes and three goalkeepers kept a clean sheet, leading the Crusaders to a 6-0 win at Southern Wesleyan in Conference Carolinas men's soccer action Saturday afternoon.
The Crusaders improve to 9-4-2 overall and 7-2-1 in league play, while the Warriors fall to 4-11-1, 1-9-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Abbey opened the scoring 4:14 into the contest when Alexander Ljusberg was assisted by Nate Cox.
- Goals by Davis McBee (23:12) and Zion Duncan (23:41) just 29 seconds apart midway through the half pushed the lead to 3-0.
- Walter Gomez tallied his fourth and fifth goals of the season for a 5-0 advantage, while Pa Njie capped the barrage with his second of the year at the 37:11 mark.
- The last five goals cam over a 15-minute span.
- Will Whitman started in goal and made six saves over the first 45 minutes.
- Jackson Gurr and Trent McConnaughey split the second half action, combining for five saves.
- Southern Wesleyan actually outshot the Crusaders 26-17 although the on-goal tally was 11 for each.
- The win was the fourth in the last five contests for The Abbey.
